Starlight
The Starlight Foundation's partnership with Aliquam created an underwater sensory experience in the Sydney Children's Hospital's Starlight Express Room for sick children. This collaboration allowed children to connect with nature and the outdoors through elements like water, ocean sounds from Aliquam's series, and ocean-themed art activities. It provided a unique, immersive sensory experience to build positive memories and bring a sense of wonder to hospital life.
Sensory experiences build layers of memories in our brains which in turn, create emotional attachment to a place. The more sensory experience we expose ourselves to, the stronger our connection to nature and the outdoors becomes.
While children in hospital may not be able to visit the ocean, Starlight recently joined forced with Aliquam to create an under-the-water sensory experience.
The Starlight Express Room in Sydney Children’s Hospital was transformed, allowing children to lead themselves through an underwater adventure.
Touching water, smelling the ocean and listen to the bespoke soundscape – created by combining sound bites from the three Aliquam series. What a thoughtful way to allow children in hospital feel connected to the outdoors.
Children then participated in an imagination activity, where they created art sculptures that symbolised the under-the-sea world they had imagined in this experience.
